Green Earth Cafe is a calm, all-vegan spot tucked right in the heart of Bedford’s St Paul’s Square, catering to anyone looking for a relaxed café experience away from the usual chains. The atmosphere inside leans toward cozy and welcoming, with a variety of seating options that include comfy sofas and standard tables, making it a comfortable place for everything from quiet mornings with a book to casual meet-ups.

Locals often drop in on colder weekend mornings or during weekdays for their carefully crafted coffee options — the café’s soya milk cappuccino and turmeric latte are well-regarded, standing out amid the typical high street selections. Food-wise, the menu stays focused and fresh, spotlighting vegan dishes that balance comfort with thoughtful flavor combinations. Breakfast is particularly favored, with the tofu scramble on sourdough toast and the big breakfast getting plenty of nods from regulars. The presence of good bread — especially their focaccia — and a variety of baked treats like biscoff cake, chocolate brownies, and peanut butter cookies add a homely touch to the experience.

The pace here isn’t rushed, which means expecting some wait time during busier periods, especially around the weekend brunch hours. That slower pace fits well with the space’s relaxed vibe, ideal for those who want to linger over a cup of coffee or the soup of the day. Although its location in the central square makes it easily accessible, the café maintains a peaceful, almost calm atmosphere that often feels like a quiet corner inside a bustling town.

Green Earth Cafe suits vegans and those curious about plant-based options alike. The use of well-prepared meat substitutes and variety in savory dishes — like mushroom or portobello wraps, udon noodles with crispy tofu, and bean burgers with fries — makes it approachable for anyone interested in a satisfying, wholesome meal. With helpful staff and a smile behind the counter, this space quietly serves Bedford residents looking for a steady, friendly spot where quality coffee and vegan food meet under one roof.

Having walked past this place a few times when it was closed, we ventured in one cold Saturday morning and we were glad we did! Staff are helpful, food is tasty and the coffees are better than your typical chains on the high street. The cafe serves vegan only food but the meat substitutes are very good and would recommend their chai or turmeric latte + anything with their focaccia bread! Would visit again but during busy times you may need to wait for an available table.

Went today for the first time. Been vegan for years and never knew of it. What a gem this place is, lots of spacious seating in various forms, sofas, table and chairs etc and a lovely relaxed atmosphere greated me. Small menu but with plenty of choice and daily specials all freshly cooked, so do prepare to wait (its worth the wait!) Lots of sweet treats to choose from too. I ordered a tofu runny egg sandwich, lemon cake and a blood orange sparkling water, (had to take a piece of bakewell slice home for an eager vegan) it was all really delicious. So nice to have somewhere totally vegan. I will definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu. Its a 10/10 from me!

I've been vegan for almost a decade and it's so refreshing to have an entirely vegan cafe to go to. I've been coming here since they first opened and I even went to their fine dining event a few years ago. It's a lovely cafe with plenty of inside seating (plus air con!) and a small outside seating area. They always have a soup and a good selection of savoury food on, plus a selection of cakes and hot drinks. They also showcase local artists and businesses inside the cafe which I really appreciate. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars for service is that sometimes service can be slow, but don't let that deter you. This is a wonderful gem with delicious food that deserves our support. I went in today and had the Korean BBQ tofu salad (pictured).

This is the best vegan restaurant in Bedford. Very quiet and clam atmosphere. Warm welcoming vibes. Great staff and she served with a smile. Very friendly and helpful. It has the variety of food and beverage choices. The location is very central. Defo coming back again and recommend.

Walked past and saw the sign so popped in to have a look and am so so pleased we did. What a treasure to find - lots of options but we chose to have the big breakfast, which was the best I've had in years. The scrambled tofu was amazing! Really nice space, friendly and warm staff (the chef has the warmest smile, like he knew he was delivering the best breakfast). There is a huge cake selection so we will be trying a few of those too.

Really lovely first visit to GEC. Vegan place, so slightly unexpected. However the cakes were very good. The hot chocolate was a bit toooo sweet so that might need looking at, hence the knock of one star off Food. However, would visit again. Interesting menu options for lunch, being vegan.

Green Earth is one of my favourite places to visit every single time. The food is made with true thoughtfulness, love and consideration. Everyone in the team will take care of you with friendliness and consider you part of their cheerful community. The atmosphere is gentle with pleasant music and the buzz of people enjoying nutritious healthy meals and the warm decor will make you feel nice and cosy. Would wholeheartedly recommend and if you haven’t been, you are missing out!
